Please make yourself at home in our Main Lodge! We invite you to enjoy the living area, screened-in porch, or deck area during our operating hours. Our lodge has a comfortable TV area as well as plenty of books, puzzles, and games for your enjoyment.
Lodge hours are: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Resort quiet hours are from 10:00 PM - 8:00 AM.
The lodge may be closed periodically between 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM while we are out caring for the property.
Borderland Lodge is closed over the “shoulder seasons” from April 1 through the May fishing opener, and then again November 1 through December 27.

We’re glad to welcome your pet(s) to our resort!
Our corner of the Gunflint is a strange place for pets, so please make sure to bring them with you as much as possible, keep them on a leash at all times when on the property, and use the provided pet bags to pick up any waste.
Pet charge is $20/day or $120/week per pet.
-
Please do not smoke in cabins or lodge suites. We ask that you go out on the decks and be considerate of your neighbors if you are on the upper deck above the lodge. Please no butts on the ground or hot ashes in the trash.
-
Cabin and lodge rooms are fully stocked with bed and bath linens.
Due to septic capacity we do not offer daily linen services. When needed, or if you have a special need, please contact the lodge. We ask that you please refrain from taking bath towels outside. We have a supply of outside towels available upon request.
Public laundromats are available in Grand Marais.
-
Borderland Lodge has a special septic system, so please do not flush anything other than toilet paper (i.e. paper towels, feminine hygiene products, etc.).
Trash service is provided at 12PM/noon daily.
If you see that trash pick-up has already happened, we ask that you keep your trash in the cabin/room overnight to avoid the attention of our forest friends.
We encourage our guests to recycle when possible. Please dedicate one of your trash cans to general garbage, and the other to recyclable materials, including glass, aluminum/steel cans, recyclable plastic, and cardboard. Please make sure that recycling has been cleaned of any food/etc waste before discarding.
-
Cabin and lodge room policies are based on 2-4 person occupancy, depending on the unit.
There is an additional guest fee of $30/guest/night, with children 4 years and under years old staying for free.
-
The rustic and rugged terrain of the Gunflint Trail is part of what makes this area one-of-kind. It also provides unique challenges when it comes to hauling boats, ATVs and snowmobiles.
Sun & Snow can accommodate two trailers within the price of the cabin.
Bear Paw, Jack Pine, and Wolf Den can accommodate one trailer within the price of the cabin. The second trailer is an additional $20/night, or $120/week.
Lodge rooms can accommodate one trailer for an additional $20/night, or $120/week.
Three trailers are allowed on a case-by-case basis for an additional $20/night or $120/week.
-
Wintertime in the Northwoods creates unique challenges. All guests staying during the winter months are highly encouraged to drive a 4WD/AWD vehicle when visiting. Your safety and a smooth arrival are our priority.
-
Borderland Lodge is a wilderness lodge – it’s why people come here!
While we work to provide a safe and enjoyable experience, certain risks are inherent in a wilderness location that cannot reasonably by removed without altering the unique wilderness experience.
Some of these risks include uneven terrain, unpredictable weather, and insects and wild animals. In addition, our lake areas are not monitored by lifeguards.
When you stay at Borderland Lodge, you assume the risks of those activities and release Borderland Lodge from any liability for any harm or damages that may occur.
-
Each Borderland Lodge cabin is outfitted with either a wood burning stove or propane fireplace, fire starter, and the tools you will need for a personal fire in your cabin.
Bear Paw and Sun & Snow have private fire rings for your enjoyment.
All guests are invited to use the shared fire rings in front of the lodge or near the docks.
Because we are in a heavily wooded forested area we ask that you please use your best judgment and more sure to fully extinguish your fire once done.
Fires in other locations are not permitted.
-
Please practice safe cooking habits and do not leave burners on unattended. All dishes must be washed and put away prior to departure. Lingering smells, grease, and dishes that require additional cleaning will result in a $250 cleaning fee.
We want you to have a great time when you are here! But, if things get too crazy, we go by the old-school rule of ‘you break it, you buy it’ and property damages or missing items will be charged to your credit card at market value. Linens that remain stained after multiple treatments and washes are $125 a set.
Pre-existing damages or cabin/room issues should be reported immediately after registration to avoid responsibility and potential charges.
Our resort allows guests, with permission, to receive occasional packages and special deliveries at the property. We are not responsible for the packages or their contents or the storage of them.
